I was happy when I heard there was more variety of restaurants in St. Cloud. My wife and I walked in and then we found out it was a Hibachi joint. It was our first time and it was fun. The food was decent, and for the price that included dinner entertainment I couldn't complain. The hibachi artists were fun to watch even though they seemed a little tired of the same jokes. Either way they were entertaining and we had great service and a good time. p.s. The ambience was probably the best I've seen in St. Cloud. The walls seemed as authentic as any American who hasn't been to Japan would know and the chairs in the waiting lounge are pretty awesome. p.s.s. This place would be great for groups

The Fuji steakhouse is an extraordinary place to eat. I would highly recommend the hibatchi. Great entertainment and great cuisine! Monday night has 99 cent beers, a real bonus.

Good place for sushi in St. Cloud. Food off menu is good. The service has always been very good when I have been here. Outstanding Japanese tap beer in big frosty mug! Have done Hibachi a couple of times, fun for the kids and if you have someone who hasn't seen it before. We usually order off the menu.

Not the way I expected my anniversary to turn out. :(( Ordered hot tea and was chastised by our waiter "James" when requesting sweetener. Delivered our tempura appetizer quickly but left us so fast we did not get plates. We shared right out of the bowl. "James" rolled his eyes when I requested my Fancy rainbow roll without chili mayo or wasabi mayo. He said "then just get the Rainbow Roll". I said "fine" then add tobiko to it. And he said "fine a fancy without the spice". We ordered the Tuna deluxe entrée. I again requested the tuna roll not be spicy. He said the spicy tuna was pre-made. I asked if they could sub regular tuna, he said "no, it's not that spicy, this isn't a Mexican restaurant you know". I gave in and said "okay". However, I didn't understand why the tuna roll came slathered in spicy mayo, That made no sense to me and seemed intentional. I practically had to yell for him to please bring water and his response was "you want water too?" He never gave us small dishes for soy sauce, I had to get them from the bar. We never got our miso soup or salad with our entrée and by the time he got back to us we were almost done and didn't even ask for it. The only time he stood over us was when he gave us our bill. I decided to go to the counter to talk to a manager but he came to ring us up. The manager "Pat" was also at the counter. I explained my disappointment and "James" actually argued with me a bit, insisting he brought us chopsticks etc... which he did not. She told him to stop arguing and just apologize, but it was condescending as if she was saying "just be quiet so she goes away". The manager's answer was "sorry, just don't tip him". I said no, you will credit me for the soup and salad we never received. I explained I'm usually a 30% tipper as I come from a service oriented family and that she should have stepped up to rectify our complaints and not tell us just to not tip our server. I still gave him $5.00 which in his defense he told me he did not expect a tip and nothing was necessary. I explained that I understand working in a service industry and how important tips are and that I still wanted him to make a living and I hoped he would realize how many tips or percentages he was probably losing out on. My kids were going to meet us there for desert, but I texted them and told them not to come. So Fuji probably lost an additional $50 from us tonight, not to mention our daughter in Saint Cloud will no longer frequent their establishment with her college friends. This will be an additional loss of revenue. Sad, very sad. Food that was delivered to the table was okay, when prepared as requested. Service was poor and I believe that even worse management is to blame for this.....

You can't expect good sushi for a reasonable price in Minnesota, but Fuji does a good job... They have a good lunch special with 3 rolls of sushi of your choice for $12... Thats hard to beat...

Fuji Steakhouse is a Japanese style hibachi restaurant. We had reservations for 6:00 on a Saturday night so we get here and the place was absolutely packed already. Kinda thought we'd beat the rush if we came at 6:00 but Hell No! They have a bar and a waiting area and both were packed. So, reservations are a must. Now you can decide to do the hibachi thing and sit at one of the grills and watch them cook your food right in front of you, or you can choose to get a booth in the other side of the restaurant. There is also a sushi bar in between the two if you're just here for sushi. We decided to sit at one of the grills which is what I'd recommend if you've never been to this type of restaurant before, it's really fun and great for groups. Also, if you have kids, the chef's really do a great job of entertaining the children. Time for the food, I ordered the filet (rare) and shrimp and everything was cooked to perfection. I don't know how the chef keeps track of how everyone wants their steaks cooked but the do. My shrimp was also very good, not over cooked which seems to happen at a lot restaurants. The service was excellent and the prices were fair for this type of place. They were on top of our drinks the whole time we were here, not once did I have to waive down a server for another cocktail. St. Cloud has a lot of chain establishments so it's great to have a place like this in the area. We will definitely be back again.

Yum! One if my favorite places to eat in St. Cloud. We have been here many times and have never been disappointed. Hibachi is spectacular, and so is their sushi. The staff is so fun and inviting. Try the "sexy" sauce (their words, not mine...but, it's amazing)

Ate here while I was in town and I was pretty underwhelmed. My mom got the teriyaki chicken off the lunch menu and she liked it. It seemed like a ton of veggies and very little meat, though. I tried the broccoli off of it and it tasted weird. I got 3 different rolls off the lunch menu and was very underwhelmed by any of them. I ended up putting a bunch of unagi sauce on them to get them down. Our waiter seemed annoyed when it took us a while to decide what we wanted, maybe since it was close to them closing after lunch, and our food came out at different times. Overall, I would not eat here again.

The sushi here is outstanding. Very surprising being in Minnesota. I even had to order an extra roll. Service was average and only because it was not very busy and had to wait for the check. All of the staff was very cordial and even other wait staff interacted with me. If the service would have been better I would have given it five stars.

  • Jered R.

Phenomenal food, atmosphere, pleasant wait staff as well as hibachi cooks. Both the Sushi and the grill are great. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 star is the length of time it took EVERY time to get drinks . We did have a decent sized group but 20+ min per round of drinks was a long time to wait when you are thirsty Either way great to have some authentic and tasty variety in the area I will be going back

I agree with most reviewers that the sushi is good. If you go just once, you'll probably have a decent experience. The service will be slow, you'll wait forever for the check, but the food won't be bad. However, if you keep going back, at some point you'll have to deal with the insufferable manager. Last year, I made the mistake of purchasing half-off vouchers through DealChicken, because I really did enjoy Fuji's food. I've tried to use the vouchers on several occasions, and have only managed to use two. Fuji does not abide by the terms of the vouchers, and will deny them for whatever reason they can come up with that day. The last time I tried to use one, I'd called in an order for pickup (to avoid the bad service). When I got there, the manager saw me pull out a voucher as I was being rung up by the cashier. She said, "You can't use those today. We posted a sign on the door. You should've seen it on your way in." I obviously couldn't have seen the sign before I called, but when I brought that up she said, "Just gives you a chance to use it another time." Then she walked away. She just turned around and left. Pretty rude, if you ask me. Had that been my first bad experience with her, I would've chalked it up to her having a bad day. However, now I'm convinced she's just a terrible manager. Fortunately, DealChicken refunded my money. I won't be going back. Their sushi might be good, but that woman is so unpleasant I'd rather just pick up rolls from Byerly's. They're good, too.

I'm very surprised that this restaurant has bad reviews. I've had nothing but great experiences and delicious food here. The sushi is as good as you can get here in central minnesota. The hibachi is amazing. You get more than you could possibly eat with the dinner hibachi, just the right amount for the lunch. The Hibachi is so fresh and delicious. You just feel good after you eat it. I have also tried the seafood soup which was amazingly huge for the price, and also fresh and delicious. People complain about price of this place sometimes but I will say again as I have in some of my other reviews, I would rather pay a couple $$'s more to eat something fresh and healthy. I don't think this place is overpriced @ all for the quality and amount that you get. Would high recommend this for a special occasion with a big group (hibachi room) or even an intimate date (dining room).

It was ok. My party and I didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night, and waited almost exactly an hour for a table. I kind of wish we hadn't bothered. The service was slow, and the waitress we had kind of knew someone at the table and apparently took that as her cue to be very unprofessional. She made jokes about wanting to eat our food, and shoved one of my friends over in the table so she could sit down with her tray. We had a party of five, and our meals all came out at different times over the course of 30 minutes. Some of us were finished eating before the others' food even showed up. I had one of the house specialty drinks while we were waiting, and it was mediocre and watered down. It should have just been called pink lemonade. I had a fancy rainbow roll that was ok, but sloppily assembled. It kept falling apart in my soy sauce. The eel maki was a little better, but unimpressive. I'd been to the restaurant once before, and the experience was a lot more pleasant but the food was still just "meh." I'm glad that St. Cloud finally has a bigger sushi place in town, but I'd still go to Pok's Sakura over this any day. I hope Fuji hasn't pushed them out of business - it's a much more authentic experience.

Grabbed lunch here on the way back from a Northern trip and thought it was pretty good. They have a nice miso and good service at the sushi counter

Loved it! Beautiful decor, friendly and fast service, and great food! I had the chicken teriyaki lunch bento box, and my mom had the salmon teriyaki lunch entree. We had Miso soup instead of the onion soup. I have had bad experiences with sushi before, but my sushi rolls here were very good. I would definitely return.

They have scallops as a sashimi offering, that's quite unique for this area. The sashimi lunch was fresh and tasteful. I suppose as long as it's fresh you can't screw up raw fish... I was pleased with my uncooked portions and felt the $14, including tip, was worth it for a beer and a 6 piece sashimi lunch with a complimentary added selection of fish.

Fuji is a Japanese steak house, Hibachi grill, and sushi bar. It opened relatively recently, for St. Cloud, and from my experience it was a pretty decent place. On the outside you can tell by its looks that it is rather new, but inside the establishment it looks like it's been in business for 20 or 30 years. Take that how you will. You can eat in one of three areas: the Hibachi grill, where you can watch them cook your food right in front of you on a sizzling grill; the sushi bar, or the regular restaurant section. My eating partner and I chose the regular restaurant section. As far as I could tell, the entire menu, which was rather large and varied in its entrée and sushi selections, was open to us. We went for lunch and my partner had a sushi combo and I had Steak Udon noodles. Service was fair, not fast by any means, but not slow enough to get impatient. The sushi was decent, but my noodles were quite good, as was the steak in my noodles (not chewy, and cooked so it wasn't under or over cooked). While it isn't a hit in my book, for St. Cloud it's a pretty good place. The prices are pretty good (Sushi: $5-10; Entrées: $10-15), plenty of seating, decent service, and good food. Definitely worth trying out at least if you're a fan of Japanese cuisine.

I'm torn over this place, have had some good food but the manager is.....not very friendly she's been rude to me on a few different occasions. The hibachi is pretty good except the shrimp I don't like the sauce they put on it. The California rolls are good, but it's just wrong that they always charge you for spicy mayo to go along side of it. I have gotten california rolls at MANY different restaurant and this is the only one that charges for the spicy mayo....I always dread the invites I get to this restaurant because I know I don't enjoy any interactions with the management...

When you go here, you pay for a great experience, amazing Japanese food and a show! I've only been here for the Hibachi in the back, so I can't comment on ordering off the menu from the kitchen. When we went, we went all out, ordered sake, appetizers and had the whole meal, it added up in price, but it was very worth it! (I hear it is cheaper to order off the kitchen menu, and to order during lunch) I had a sake-tini and really enjoyed it, the rest of my group had straight sake and they would order it again. My boyfriend really enjoys spice and heat, we told our server that he wanted the food as hot as it could be. They went back into the kitchen and mixed some random special hot sauce up for him (and a few others on our table) My eyes were watering just sitting next to him! The only downside to our night was that we had reservations and still had to wait an hour to get seated. But with Hibachi tables you really can't chase people off, so it is understandable, but annoying. All in all, we will be back! I can't wait until the next time we do get back!

Visited Fuji a little before 5 on a Wednesday. Was promptly seated and given the Wednesday Sushi/Happy Hour Specials. Ordered Tempura Vegetables and Sushi. All in all good service and good food. Not out of this world, but very good.

Meh. Overpriced and underdelivered. As is usual in Saint Cloud the masses love this place which is just OK in terms of food qualify. THe sushi is OK but not great (poks sakura is much better and much more reasonable in cost) and the hibachi is something worth missing. If you like overcharging, crowds and waiting for service then this is THE PLACE TO BE.

Me and my girlfriend love eating here, better to go for lunch if you are on a budget however, meals are usually half price, but with smaller portions that are more manageable. Whichever room you choose to dine in, wether it be the Hibachi or the dining room, both are great, great staff and service. LOVE THE SUSHI!

Nice little sushi and hibachi place in Waite Park. Great staff/management. I have been there a number of times (at least 10) and have had a poor server twice. Pretty good odds. Last night, though, our server was phenomenal. Gracious to my dad, who can be a bit brazen, and even brought him an extra "special" sauce not on the menu, to try with his tempura veggies--which were, by the way, delightful. He let me try them and I had a bite of neon orange sweet potato or squash, lightly breaded in panko. With the sauce, it was crispy, and sweet and starchy, perfectly cooked, and the sauce added a sweet/sour umami taste. It had to be some kind of japanese mayo with teriyaki and spice, but it was out of this world. The sushi here is good. Nothing spectacular, although this is the only place I will order a black dragon maki roll, because they do it WELL. I have also tried a seafood udon noodle dish. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants some warming, comfort food. It hits the spot. Wine selection could use an upgrade, but overall the experience is generally very good. I am a regular whenever I am in the St. Cloud area.

I am speaking from past experience as a waitress in a japanese steak house and sushi bar and 6 years of waitress experience when I write this review. That was some of the worst service I have ever had in my life. Everything was quick and speedy. However the waiter could hardly understand English or anything u said to him. He acted very aggravated also when we mentioned there was a shellfish allergy in our party. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, I have had many different spicy tuna rolls at many different places and this was one of the worst. It was like express sushi and was all mushy and chewy and didn't taste fresh at all. I ate one of the six pieces of the roll and decided I didn't want anymore. So I told the waiter my concerns and rather than apologizing and asking what he could do he instead argued with me and told me the fish was fresh from that day and walked away. At the end of the meal when I received my bill he had still charged me and so I asked if he could please take it off my bill bc it wasn't good and I only ate one piece. He said no because I had already ate it? How would I know it was no good if I didn't try a piece? He then told me I could get up and go talk to the manager rather than offering to talk to get himself or send her over to speak to me. So I decided it wasn't worth my time. He came back to the table and continued to tell me I was wrong about the roll while he stood and watched and waited for me and my other friends to put the money in the bill books. He took the book looked in both and counted the money while still standing at the table and when he realized we both chose not to leave a tip he made a snort laugh sound and gave me a dirty look and walked away. As we walked out he was standing with the manager pointing at us as we walked by. I would never give that place another penny. Horrible customer service and a horrible manager.

I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment. First off, I would strongly suggest taking advantage of the lunch menu. A delicious and well done hibachi meal is under $10 opposed to the dinner option of $20+. Secondly, their sushi is easily the best that I've had in the central MN region and compares to that in quality of Minneapolis and Tokyo. Again, I've taken advantage of the lunch special where the pricing is very generous for a Japanese restaurant. A sushi lunch (5 pieces and a california roll) is $8.50. A sushi and sashimi lunch is $10.95, same as sushi along with 4 pieces of sashimi. As far as the rest of the menu goes, I don't have any insight on the quality of those dishes. Again stick to the hibachi and sushi during lunch and you will surely have a great experience!!

I am upgrading my rating of Fuji...they must be reading the reviews because our service was excellent. 18 of us ate Hibachi and the food was on time, didn't feel like we were waiting too long at all. Filet Mignon is SO good, also liked the spicy tuna rolls. I usually find something to complain about, I guess our wait in the bar for about 15 minutes past our reservation could have been annoying, but it didn't bother us. You must be listening Fuji! GREAT JOB!

  • Angela M.

I went here for their Wednesday night Martini and sushi special. Being I was dining solo, I sat at the bar...not much of a wait. They have a nice selection of $5 martinis which went down easy and helped pass the time for the variety of sushi and rolls that I got. On a side note, it is quite lovely when you walk in here with a huge koi pond...very zen like. They also have traditional seating in the back rooms by where the hibachi is (a guy came out beating on some drums for a party sitting there, which was different but amusing) It was a bit of a wait, but they were busy...being that I am not from around the area, I guess their dinner special nights are popular so plan ahead with that and make reservations. I don't remember exactly what I got but it was so pretty that I took a picture of it, the sushi chef drew me a flower on my plate! How sweet, when I am in town again I will definitely come back here. I thought the service was friendly, if a little slow but the prices were good and the sushi was surprisingly fresh and tasty. And for those sushi virgins out there, they have a great deal of cooked rolls that are probably good also..I only got raw items, but a couple next to me got everything good and from the groans of pleasure emanating from their mouths, I have to assume it was half decent.

If you're an experienced sushi eater, go to Fuji with low expectations and it will be just fine. Tuna Rolls, California Rolls, basic Sushi, Teriyaki, stuff like that. It gets us by when I don't feel like driving to Minneapolis for dinner. If you are new to sushi, it's a decent place to start. You're not going to get Toro belly tuna or fresh Sea Urchin or anything incredibly fresh flown in from places like the Tokyo Fish Market, but it's the only thing we have in St. Cloud so I feel obligated to support it somewhat. You will be disappointed if you are expecting a talented sushi chef to dazzle you with interesting creations. Don't ask for anything special. Stick to the menu. Play it safe. Got it? Most of the St. Cloud crowd skip the Sushi anyway and instead pack the Hibachi grill rooms on the weekends. Flaming onion volcanos and rice sculptures still drive the crowd wild!

Really like their sushi here and tonight we tried the spicy tuna and salmon rolls.. Yummmmmm!!! There is something very unique and good about their wasabi as well.. It's very smooth (I am a wasabi lover!) We will continue to come here again and again!

Best Sushi you will find in St Cloud! Great for dates and perfect for large groups. They have the most friendly and fun staff which makes dinner just that much better. Although the exterior isn't very pleasing it's definitely a whole different world inside. When I go I always get the Tempura Veggie appetizer something about the batter is amazing and veggies always fresh. I also take down some sushi before hibachi and always get double rice it's the only way to go.

I went here for a bachelorette party with 13 people. We had reservations, made well in advance for 6:30 pm. On arrival, our table was "being cleaned" and we got a buzzer. We were not seated until well after 7:15 pm. There were not enough chairs at our end of the hibachi table and two of our party sat elsewhere. We sat at the hibachi table for over 20 minutes without anyone coming by to get drink orders or even drop off water. Someone finally went up front and an waitress came by to get drink and food orders and we sat for another 15 minutes with no service. The hibachi chef did not arrive at our station until nearly 8 pm and our drinks came to the table 2 and 3 at a time, every 5-10 minutes. I did not get my drink until I was half finished with dinner. The vent at our station was not working and as soon as the chef started cooking several people had faces full of smoke. The food was good, I had the sushi and it was comparable to other sushi places in the area. The service was terrible and I would not recommend the establishment nor will I return there if I have an input in where our dinner plans are being made.

For a sushi place that is miles and miles away from the nearest Ocean, ok, I will give you credit. This place gets a good grade for good effort. I ordered an unagi roll and the chirashi sushi. For the Midwest, I suppose this was ok. The chirashi had 3 small pieces of raw tuna, and 6 small pieces white fish, and 2 pieces of salmon, and some pickled radishes. I was hoping for a little more volume of fish. Its unfair that I compare this place to the sushi places I've had in Japan and Hawaii because I know the variety of fresh fish isn't available. But this place is just fine, all things considered.

This is NOT good sushi at all. It seems St. Cloud can't figure out what every other city in the US has. I can't speak as to anything but the sushi but steer clear. It's worse than gas station sushi.

Waite Park, MN. It is nice in here and the decor set up in the front is welcoming. Good service and great teriyaki chicken and California rolls. You know that's my favorite. My friend was trying sushi for the first time and he loved it too!

Bad service, took forever for the waiter to show up, took about 10 minutes to get the drinks to our table. It was my boyfriend's first time at a hibachi restaurant I was hoping for it to be a good experience. The portions we received were not worth what was spent. Did not measure up to the other grills I had been to. I suggest looking somewhere else.

What can I say. Food was great, I think but, be prepare for a lengthy wait. Now you say that is normal without a reservation. Well, we had a reservation for 7:30. Seated finally at 8:00 no one to take drink orders. Had to gobto the bar for those. Cooking of food didn't commence until after 9:00. I say I have think the food was great because I was so hungry by the time we got it...

I love this place! We went there on my birthday and our waiter was hilarious. There was 10 of us all ordering different things, we got it fairly quickly considering the amount of food and it was a Friday night. For it being a Midwest sushi restaurant it exceeded my expectations. I will be going back.
